2022 Summer Project

Last year, I had a summer project, cutting down a pine tree behind my garage.  The needles from this tree had collected on the roof of the garage, and between soaking up water, and natural acidity, they punched a hole in the roof.  Also, the concrete floor is quite broken up by the roots.  The summer before, I cut a swath of bark off the base of the tree to kill it.

So last June, I started cutting branches off, while leaving 18 to 24" sticking out so I could climb the tree once I ran out of ladder.

I took my time, since I'm, you know, old, fat, and out of shape.  It was a challenge that I really enjoyed.

I'd cut down a half a dozen or so branches, then clean off the twigs, and cut them into nice lengths for my fire pit.  For safety reasons, I used a hand saw, and would tie off to the tree once I free climbed to where the work was.  I'd done similar work before as an electrician, so I wasn't afraid of falling.
